Greece Aegean Sea North Sporades Skiros
Skiros is another Aegean island inhabited from the bronze era and loaded with history. Together with Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonisos belong to the region of North Sporades.
I was attracted by the relics of a very old and historic mine on one of the coasts of the island, that can be seen on the foreground of the picture. But as I was trying to more soundly fix my tripod on the rocky ground , in order to cope with a very strong wind, only then, I cought a full glimpse of the astounded view that was stretching behind and I decided to squeeze everything in....So, apart from the relics of the ancient mine, one can see a very old, almost ruined stony church dating from the late 18th century and far behind the Chora(capital town of the island) as it stretches on the mountain slope...
Is it really too much...content?
(6x4,5 120 Velvia positive with Mamiya AF DIII. The slide then scanned to digital and converted to monochrome, although the colour version was equally satisfactory to me.)

    With a predominance of past.
Masterful monochrome which emphasizes the structure of this unusual dead city.

i perfectly agree with adele! it's making one gape in awe – a revelation! my first thought was that those ancient ruins in the foreground looked like giant man-made sandcastles eroded by the rain and wind… transitory, just like the only slightly younger ; ) church and today's contemporaray settlements!* floods, volcanoes, earthquakes, the rise and falls of empires – we're all but specks in time compared to that vast entity we call eternity! greetings, sabine.

I think that you did right to include all that was there in this one shot. It is very impressive with the ruined relics of the ancient mine in the foreground, then the old ruined Church and then in the far distance the Chora. It is a far reaching and sweeping view of the history of this place.
The lighting and exposure are excellent, giving superb details throughout the whole scene..

    :))

there is much to see here, but it all belongs into one shot to show the relationship of old and new to each other and the surrounding rugged and beautiful mountainscape ... as always a fine conversion from your original slide and very effective in black and white !!
    greetings, Adele

It's not too much content, it's a busy shot but not confusing. It's fantastic, literally speaking, seems like a landscape out of a "Lord of The Rings" movie.
