Locust Point No. 4 - Domino + Summer Sun - A Baltimore Impression
The Domino Sugar plant in Baltimore's Locust Point district has been an iconic part of the Baltimore
skyline for 102 years. Its huge red neon sign is often a feature in Baltimore Inner Harbor nightscapes.
Over the years, I have enjoyed shooting Domino, whether at night from Federal Hill or the Harbor East district,
at sunset from Fells Point, or by day from water level, often with a large bulk carrier tied up at its loading dock
or with sailboats and other smaller craft adding bright accents.(*)
This aspect of the plant, as seen from Tide Point, would not normally occur to me as a motif, absent the
context of the harbor setting, but the summer sun setting off the plant's tall chimney and other details
certainly caught a photographer's eye.
