QueensScape No.22--Coming and Going on a Winter Night

Here in Long Island City, Queens, Astoria Line trains of the New York City Subway system use two ramps,
one above the other, alongside the Queensboro Bridge to serve the elevated Queensboro Plaza Station.

That station has two platform levels, serving two different lines that converge at QBP, the Astoria Line N and W
trains and the Flushing 7 Line trains, providing cross-platform transfers for both outbound and Manhattan-bound trains.

Here on this December night, an Astoria bound W train is completing its climb from the 60th Street tunnel under the
East River, and will shortly arrive on the Upper Level of QBP. On the lower ramp, a Manhattan-bound train, having just departed QBP's Lower Level platform is heading tunnel-ward on its way to Manhattan.

The pathway below carries pedestrians, bicyclists and scooter-riders between Long Island City and Manhattan. If they choose to pause while high above the East River on this cold but very clear night, they will enjoy, from the north side of the bridge, dramatic views of the Manhattan skyline, perhaps even a passing cable car of the Roosevelt Island Tramway running alongside the bridge between Roosevelt Island and Manhattan's East Side.

Meanwhile, a cold-fingered photographer will smile at having dodged scooters and bikes
to catch this "meet" of two Astoria Line trains going their separate ways on this winter night.
